George Shields, Senior Cost Engineer

The Atlanta estimating and cost management team is reaping the benefit of George’s 30+ years of experience as a senior engineer, cost manager, and estimator for owners, developers, and consulting firms. In addition to estimating and cost management, his expertise encompasses buildout construction management, outside planning, and HAZWOPER training.  Among his first projects with Axias will be assessing the current replacement value of 301 buildings owned by the Smithsonian Institution. Leveraging his strong background with federal government work and security clearance level, George will also be taking on Department of Defense and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in various locations.

Born in El Paso at the Fort Bliss army hospital, George moved to Philadelphia where he earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Spring Garden College. Ten years later he moved to Atlanta, which has been his home ever since. When he’s not on the Axias clock, he enjoys spending time with his family and traveling with his wife of 32 years, watching football, playing tennis, pursuing his interest in classic and vintage automobiles, and solving puzzles. George, with a son and daughter who are both in college, is a happy guy, “Except maybe for tuition payments.”
