Brian Hill, MRICS, Senior Assessor

Brian added to the expansion of our growing assessment services group when he joined the Alexandria-based team in May 2022 as a senior assessor. He began his career in 1986 as a trainee quantity surveyor (estimator)  for a small local building firm. Subsequently, in 1989 he started work as a building inspector in his hometown of Ipswich, England, for the borough council. While working full-time, he also attended Anglia Polytechnic University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in building engineering.

After serving Ipswich for eight years, Brian was a building inspector for several other local authorities before moving on to roles as a senior maintenance manager and a senior project and contract manager in Oxford. Not only did he find gainful employment there, but it’s also where he met his future wife—an American—while she pursued a doctorate at the university. After moving to the Richmond, Virginia, area in 2009, Brian held positions as a project manager, facilities manager, and maintenance director with various organizations before joining Axias.

Clearly a project-oriented guy, Brian likes to tinker with antique clocks. Though he isn’t cheeky enough to call himself an ammeter horologist quite yet, he’s building up to it. The current project is an English grandfather clock that is over 200 years old. And after a recent move to Dinwiddie County, south of Richmond, the next big project is restoration of the 1910 Victorian farmhouse he and his wife just bought.
