NAVFAC Washington

Marine Corps Base Quantico

Axias has provided a broad range of cost engineering services working with NAVFAC Washington since 2017. The number of military bases in the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility (AOR) is very broad, requiring a different approach to estimating for each location.  Our cost engineering services have included cost estimates developed using RS Means Cost Works, MCACES, and PACES systems, as well as providing value engineering, scheduling, and cost and schedule risk analysis (CSRA) services. Projects Axias has supported include:   

Joint Base Anacostia Bolling

  • Joint Air Defense Operations Center (JADOC) Phase II. The project created a new permanent facility for the National Capital Region Air Defense System. Phase II of the project which included maintenance and lab spaces, a training operations floor, a training classroom, a planning room, and SCIF.

  • Military Working Dog Kennel Complex.  A new 17,000 SF foot facility with indoor/ outdoor kennels and central support spaces including transient rooms for handlers required to stay overnight. The project also includes outdoor fenced areas one large area for exercising MWDs.

  • HMX-1 Marine Helicopter One Compound. The project renovated six facilities in the existing Building 398 HMX-1 including the hangar and admin office, security features and a primary parking lot.

Camp Frettered

  • Reserve Training Center and Vehicle Maintenance Facility.  This project entails the construction of three new buildings: a Reserve Training Center, a Vehicle Maintenance facility (VMF), and an organic storage shed. It also includes tactical vehicle parking, a Quadcon &  HAZMAT storage, a refueling area, and a vehicle wash platform.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard

  • Mariners Skills Training Facility. The Surface Warfare Officers School Command had a new requirement for training space. An existing facility at Naval Station Norfolk was identified as a space with the required square footage to house the training systems and the 53,000 SF existing facility was developed into a 60,000 SF facility to meet training requirements.

Marine Corps Base Quantico

  • Mainside Water Treatment Facility Replacement. This project is intended to replace the Mainside WTP in its entirety. The Mainside WTP was built in the 1940s, modified multiple times, and has exceeded its intended useful life. This project proposes to construct a new 3-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) water treatment facility. The facility will have the capacity for future expansion to 4.5 MGD.

Naval Air Station Patuxent River Webster Outlying Field (WOLF)

  • Air Traffic Control Tower.  This project will demolish and construct a new Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT). The existing ATCT will remain in service until the new tower is operational with the design for the project including temporary utilities and coordination needed to facilitate a seamless transition.
