Axias has worked with NAVFAC Atlantic (formerly Mid Atlantic) since 2017 providing cost engineering, value engineering, scheduling, and cost & schedule risk analysis (CSRA) services. Working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Axias has supported numerous projects as part of the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Project (SIOP).

  • Dry Dock 4 Renovation. Cnstruction of a new caisson (drydock gate), rebuilding the caisson seat with deep foundations, refurbishing the dry dock floor and walls, pinning the concrete floor using soil anchors, renovating the existing pump well and rerouting all utilities into a new utility trench that runs the entire perimeter of the dry dock.

  • Dry Dock 2 Caisson Replacement The 54-year-old caisson was replaced with a reconfigured design. The new caisson—a flood-through type with double valve and cathodic protection and a modern control system—meets current military standards. The project scope encompassed repairing structural deficiencies and raising the dry dock’s concrete wing walls to provide a watertight seal for the new caisson.

  • Dry Dock 8 Saltwater System Replacement. The project included renovation of existing saltwater conveyance and drainage infrastructure at Dry Dock 8 to support CVN-78 class aircraft carrier requirements.

  • Wharf 7, Berths 41, 42, & 43 Modernization Study. The project includes the repair of Berths 41, 42, and 43 by replacing the wharf deck, bituminous pavement, supporting piles, sheet pile retaining wall, and ancillary components.

In addition to our work at NNSY Axias has facilitated several CSRAs for NAVFAC Atlantic projects. At Marine Air Corps Station (MCAS) Cherry Point in Havelock, NC Axias developed the CSRA report for a new 93,000 SF fitness center and 13,000 SF natatorium with a new combat pool. At Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC Axias developed the CSRA report and provided cost engineering support for the Bachelors Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) project which included two new buildings, totaling 400 rooms.
