Location: Alaska, Oregon, Washington
Client: GSA Region 10
Owner: General Services Administration
Axias Role: Fire and Life Safety Surveys

GSA’s Northwest/Arctic Region serves government agencies who represent more than 100,000 federal workers in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The Region’s Public Buildings Service is responsible for managing a portfolio of 15 million square feet of space in 508 owned and leased buildings.

Under Axias’ GSA Schedule contract, we were awarded a contract with Region 10 to perform fire safety surveys, including testing, for federal office buildings and courthouses in the Pacific Northwest. There are seven in Alaska, eight in Washington, and seven in Oregon. The 22 buildings comprise nearly 6.5 million square feet.

Having teamed successfully with fire protection experts Fisher Engineering, Inc. on similar work for GSA Region 9, we brought them into this project to assist with surveys and reporting of required actions to improve compliance with local codes when needed. The report for each building documented various conditions, including associated fire safety systems; stairwell locations, exits, and a description of fire rated construction; location of sprinklers; and features of the fire alarm.
