These projects involve the repair and renovations to the Kings Bay Dry Dock in Georgia and Dry Dock 4 in Norfolk, Virginia. The Kings Bay Submarine Dry Dock was completed in the early 1990’s and is composed of a reinforced concrete dry dock with a steel frame cover and roof, three bridge cranes, various supporting facilities and utilities, flooding and pump systems, caisson gates and other miscellaneous supporting equipment. Many of the existing systems have reached their useful life, parts are no longer available and/or replacement is needed to meet current and future planned mission requirements. The Dry Dock 4 (DD4) renovation repairs the dry dock, which as constructed in 1919, to meet current regulatory standards. The project generally consists of replacing the existing caisson with a modern flood-through configuration caisson, including structural repairs to the seat to accommodate the new caisson, and repairs to the dry dock wall, floor, pump well, and utilities. Both projects involve extensive MEP replacements. Hanscomb Consulting is providing detailed scheduling in addition to cost estimating.
