NIH has identified a need to develop a state-of-the-art facility to support both NIH and new congressional medical research initiatives to improve the nation's health and strengthen NIH's biomedical research capacity.

The plan is for an eight-story addition to the Clinical Center that will house the departments of Perioperative Medicine (surgery), Interventional Radiology, Radiology and Imaging Sciences, and Laboratory Medicine. The SRLM will be located next to the hospital's west laboratory wing between the Clinical Center, Convent Drive, and Center Drive. Design continues as NIH seeks construction funding.

Axias verified and validated NIH’s approved program of requirements for the 527,000-square-foot new building plus 103,000 square feet of renovations to house critical hospital functions. Our scope included construction sequencing, reviewing and updating estimated costs, and providing order-of-magnitude budgetary cost estimates for recommended major installed lab/medical equipment anticipated for the new spaces.
